Friends of Oak Park Schools

By your interest in this website, it tells us that you have a vested interest in the Oak Park Community; perhaps fond memories of your years as an Oak Park student or of owning a home or business in the area.  Oak Park neighborhoods have always had a special community feeling! Today Oak Park is a community with goals and aspirations, but lacks the same resources of years gone by.  Public schools across the nation are struggling with budget cuts.  Oak Park School District does not have the same resources available to them that other Oakland County school districts do.  To show today’s students how much people care about their community, we have formed the “Friends of Oak Park Schools” to make a difference in children’s lives, and to give back to the community that has meant so much to you.  You have an opportunity to help make the Oak Park School District the first successful minority school district in the country!

It was decided that by supporting the efforts of the Oak Park Business and Education Alliance (OPBEA) it would best serve students’ needs. There are many established programs and future ideas for you to become involved with.  The first one of our goals is to build a strong data base of resources with help from people like yourself.   This will establish resources for us to bring opportunities to the students.

You can be a part of this effort in any of the following ways:

  • Start talking about the efforts of the Oak Park Business and Education Alliance.

  • Get on the OPBEA mailing list.

  • Volunteer to make phone calls, send out mailers, or work on short-term projects.

  • Bring us your talent, enthusiasm & business connections.

  • Volunteer to mentor students.

  • Help us raise funds.

With the efforts of individuals like yourself, and the established partnership between the Oak Park School District and the Oak Park Business and Education Alliance we can truly have a dynamic, positive effect on the Oak Park community and its future.

As teachers, we appreciate the outside perspective that the business community brings to our students through OPBEA programs.
